Auto Mechanics in Mauritius for Garages and Fleet Teams

Auto mechanic recruitment in Mauritius should reflect the vehicles arriving at your workshop. Indian Ocean Millenium Partners sources mechanics and automotive technicians from Nepal and India for employers who need diagnostics, engine repair and vehicle maintenance skills. Describe your vehicle mix and workshop equipment so candidates are assessed against the work they will actually perform.

Our consultancy in Vacoas-Phoenix helps employers define vacancies, source and screen candidates, and prepare placement documents with follow-up. Separate routine servicing from complex diagnosis or fleet breakdown support.

Which auto mechanic and technician roles can you recruit?

Group vacancies by responsibilities and the vehicles involved:

  • General automotive mechanics. Routine servicing, brake and suspension work, cooling systems and scheduled vehicle maintenance.
  • Engine repair mechanics. Engine fault assessment, dismantling, repair and reassembly within the scope of your workshop.
  • Diagnostic technicians. Fault-code interpretation, structured testing and automotive electrical fault finding using the equipment you specify.
  • Fleet and diesel mechanics. Maintenance profiles for the vans, trucks or other fleet vehicles listed in your brief.

Mention makes, fuel types, diagnostic tools and job recording systems. Treat hybrid or electric vehicle work as a separate competency requirement if it forms part of the vacancy.

How can you assess diagnostic and repair experience?

Ask candidates to explain a fault from customer complaint through testing to repair verification. Check how they distinguish symptoms from causes and record findings. For engine repair, discuss measurements and checks after reassembly.

Mauritius has formal automotive training pathways through the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD). Review a candidate’s training and work evidence against the vacancy rather than assuming a qualification proves every specialist skill. If road testing forms part of the job, verify the appropriate driving licence separately with the Police Traffic Branch.

Which Work Permit steps should employers plan?

For a garage or fleet vacancy, check the permit route separately from any driving licence needed for road testing. Ordinary Work Permit applications use National E-Licensing Platform (NELS) on the Economic Development Board (EDB) portal, with contract vetting at monthly salaries of MUR 50,000 or less. Consult the hiring guide for local recruitment evidence, documents and renewal requirements.

What should a Mauritian workshop prepare before arrival?

The National Land Transport Authority (NLTA) vehicle examination process provides the setting for roadworthiness work in Mauritius. Preparing a vehicle for examination is different from conducting the official examination. Define whether your mechanic handles preparation, repair records or follow-up work, and identify who authorises release of the vehicle.

List lifting equipment, workshop ventilation, protective equipment and procedures for isolating vehicles before repairs. Ministry guidance calls for vehicle lifts to be examined at least every six months. Confirm your workshop arrangements and induction responsibilities. Specify normal hours, Saturday work or breakdown call-outs if relevant, together with supervision, accommodation and transport.

Frequently asked questions

Can a general mechanic handle every diagnostic system?

Do not assume this. List the vehicle makes, scan tools and fault types you need, then use interviews and a practical assessment to check relevant experience.

Do workers pay recruitment fees?

No. Under the Private Recruitment Agencies Act 2023, workers pay no recruitment fees. The employer bears recruitment costs, including travel to and from Mauritius.

Do you support an ongoing workshop recruitment need?

We can discuss Permanent Staffing or Recruitment Process Outsourcing for recurring vacancies. Start with the workshop roles, expected workload and the manager responsible for selection.
