Security guard recruitment in Mauritius for your premises

Security recruitment in Mauritius starts with the premises, the duties and the legal employment arrangement. Indian Ocean Millenium Partners sources candidates from Nepal and India for employers seeking security personnel.

Our Vacoas-Phoenix team supports consultation, sourcing, screening, candidate documents and placement follow-up. Corporate offices, retail premises and residential properties have different visitor flows and escalation procedures.

Which security roles should your brief cover?

  • Security guards and access control staff. Visitor checks, entry records, patrols and reporting unusual activity under your site instructions.
  • Surveillance personnel. Observation of assigned areas or CCTV screens and timely escalation through the agreed reporting chain.
  • Security supervisors. Post allocation, handovers, attendance checks and coordination with the employer’s responsible manager.

For emergency response duties, define the expected actions and the point at which staff call emergency services. Screen for calm communication, accurate incident reports and relevant training. A job title alone does not show that a candidate can handle an incident at your premises.

What registration applies to security guards in Mauritius?

Under the Private Security Service Act, guards within its scope need registration with the Commissioner of Police. Operating a private security service requires a separate business licence. Section 3 distinguishes direct employment to protect an employer’s own property, with specific exceptions. Confirm how the Act applies to your arrangement.

Police guidance describes medical fitness, training and character checks. Its published document list assumes a Mauritian identity card. For applicants from Nepal and India, confirm eligibility, acceptable identity documents and training recognition directly with the Police before committing to recruitment. Immigration permission does not settle guard registration.

How should you screen for shifts and site readiness?

State the actual roster, rest arrangements, night transport and accommodation in the brief. Identify lone posts, visitor peaks and the person available when a guard needs support. Ask how candidates would record a refused entry, a suspicious delivery or an alarm, using scenarios relevant to your site.

During selection, discuss employment history and the evidence needed to assess competence. Agree any additional screening with our team. Before deployment, the employer should explain access permissions, radio use, patrol routes, reporting forms and emergency contacts. Record the handover process so unresolved incidents reach the next shift.

Permanent Staffing can address continuing vacancies; Temporary Staffing or Project-Based Recruitment can be discussed for a defined requirement. The assignment and any required registration must be settled before deployment.

Which permit route should an employer consider?

Ordinary Work Permit applications are filed by the employer through National E-Licensing Platform (NELS) on the Economic Development Board (EDB) portal. A vetted contract is required at monthly salaries of MUR 50,000 or less. The ten-year maximum stay is not an automatic ten-year permit. Consult our hiring guide for local recruitment evidence, documents and the distinction from an Occupation Permit.

Frequently asked questions

Does a foreign guard’s previous training replace local registration?

Do not assume equivalence. Ask the Police which evidence and training they accept for the proposed duties and applicant. Their decision is separate from candidate selection.

Who pays recruitment costs?

The employer bears recruitment costs, including travel to and from Mauritius. Workers pay no recruitment fees under the Private Recruitment Agencies Act 2023.

Can recruitment include night shifts?

Include the proposed hours, supervision, transport and rest arrangements in the brief and contract. Assess suitability for that roster and confirm the employment conditions before selection.
