Healthcare staff recruitment in Mauritius for your facility

Healthcare recruitment in Mauritius starts with the duties each employee will perform. Indian Ocean Millenium Partners, also trading as JNP Recruiting Services, sources skilled and semi-skilled workers from Nepal and India for hospitals, clinics and care facilities. Define clinical responsibilities, supervision and patient contact before choosing a profile.

Mauritius has both public health services and private clinics, as documented in the Ministry of Health’s statistics. Your recruitment brief should reflect your own facility, patient needs and equipment. Our team in Vacoas-Phoenix supports consultation, sourcing and screening, then placement with document preparation and follow-up.

Nurses and care staff at a healthcare facility

Which healthcare roles can you recruit?

  • Nurses. Specify the ward, clinical experience, documentation duties and reporting line.
  • Caregivers. Describe assistance with daily living, mobility and personal care, with clear limits on clinical tasks.
  • Lab technicians. Identify the tests, equipment and responsibilities, including whether the post is a regulated medical laboratory technologist role.
  • Support staff. Set out reception, housekeeping or ward support duties and the training needed for patient areas.

For each vacancy, state language needs, pay, location, hours and accommodation arrangements. Assess communication through a realistic handover or patient interaction scenario.

What registration checks apply to nurses and lab technicians?

Nurses must register with the Nursing Council of Mauritius before practising. Foreign training does not automatically establish eligibility. Review qualifications and registration documents against the Council’s requirements before committing to a start date.

The Allied Health Professionals Council regulates medical laboratory technologists and requires registration to use that protected title. Match the actual laboratory duties to the regulated profession. Ask the Council which application requirements apply to a candidate trained abroad.

Keep caregiver duties explicit. A caregiving job title should not be used to assign nursing responsibilities. Agree the scope with your clinical lead when preparing the brief.

How should you plan shifts and safe induction?

State whether the vacancy includes nights, weekends or rotating shifts, and identify who supervises each shift. Discuss handovers, breaks and transport arrangements before selection. These are details for your facility to define, rather than assumptions based on a job title.

The national infection prevention and control guidelines cover hand hygiene, protective equipment and healthcare waste. Build these topics into induction for staff entering patient areas. Identify who will teach local procedures, check understanding and handle concerns during the first weeks.

Which permit route should your healthcare hire use?

The employer submits an ordinary Work Permit application through National E-Licensing Platform (NELS), hosted by the Economic Development Board (EDB). The Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations requires contract vetting for monthly salaries of MUR 50,000 or less. An Occupation Permit may suit an eligible professional. Professional registration remains a separate check.

Frequently asked questions

Do healthcare workers pay recruitment fees?

No. Under the Private Recruitment Agencies Act 2023, workers pay no recruitment fees. The employer bears recruitment costs, including travel to and from Mauritius.

Can you recruit for permanent and temporary needs?

We offer Permanent Staffing, Temporary Staffing and Project-Based Recruitment. Define the duration and supervision needed; every appointment remains subject to the applicable permissions.

What should HR send for an initial consultation?

Send job descriptions, required qualifications, shift patterns, reporting lines and proposed terms. For regulated roles, identify the relevant Council checks so the shortlist addresses them.
