Heavy Equipment Operators in Mauritius for Your Site Team
Heavy equipment operator recruitment in Mauritius needs a brief built around the actual machines. Indian Ocean Millenium Partners, also trading as JNP Recruiting Services, sources candidates from Nepal and India for construction and industrial employers. Tell us whether the work involves excavation, earthmoving, lifting or materials handling before deciding how many operators you need.
Our manpower consultancy in Vacoas-Phoenix supports consultation, sourcing and screening, placement, document preparation and follow-up. Specify the worksite and any movement between locations.
Last reviewed October 2026. Rules change, so confirm the current requirements with the authorities before you apply.

Which heavy equipment operators can you recruit?
Use equipment names and operating duties in your vacancy. Relevant profiles include:
- Earthmoving operators. Excavator operators, bulldozer operators and loader operators for digging, grading and moving material.
- Crane operators. Operators for the crane type, lifting capacity and working environment specified by your team.
- Materials handling operators. Forklift operators and other heavy machinery operators for industrial sites and construction logistics.
Record machine models, attachments, load ranges and recent operating experience. Separate operator duties from maintenance, rigging or signalling duties so the screening does not assume one person covers every function.
What competency evidence and driving licence checks matter?
The Ministry’s information sheet accepts a certificate of competency instead of a driving licence for foreign workers operating forklifts, excavators, loaders, tractors, mobile cranes and similar machinery within worksites. For pneumatic-tyred vehicles taken onto public roads, the appropriate driving licence is required. The Police Traffic Branch handles driving licences; check the category against the actual vehicle.
Ask for evidence relevant to the machine, rather than treating any overseas card as blanket authorisation. Clarify road use at the briefing stage and confirm the applicable documents with the authorities before deployment.

Contact usWhich Work Permit steps should employers plan?
The employer files the ordinary Work Permit application through National E-Licensing Platform (NELS) on the Economic Development Board (EDB) portal. The Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations requires contract vetting for monthly salaries of MUR 50,000 or less. Permission in Principle and quotas no longer apply. The ten-year maximum stay is not the validity of every permit. Consult the hiring guide for the full process and the Occupation Permit route where relevant.
How should you assess operators and organise site safety?
Agree a practical assessment covering pre-start checks, controlled manoeuvring, positioning and reporting defects. Describe the ground conditions, pedestrian routes, communication signals and supervisor’s instructions. Discuss the candidate’s experience with restricted spaces and visibility, without asking them to demonstrate an unfamiliar machine unsupervised.
Set out working hours, any night shifts, transport and accommodation in the brief. Plan induction and a clear handover between operators. Ministry safety guidance lists examinations of cranes and lifting machines at least every twelve months; competent operation and equipment examination are separate responsibilities. Assign responsibility for checking the relevant records.
Frequently asked questions
Can one operator cover every machine?
Assess each machine separately. Excavator experience does not establish crane or forklift competence. Identify secondary equipment in the brief and request evidence for it.
Do workers pay recruitment fees?
No. Under the Private Recruitment Agencies Act 2023, workers pay no recruitment fees. The employer bears recruitment costs, including travel to and from Mauritius.
Can you recruit for a project rather than a permanent role?
We can discuss Project-Based Recruitment, Permanent Staffing or Temporary Staffing against your programme. Agree the employment arrangement and required permissions before fixing a start date.
