Hospitality Staff Recruitment in Mauritius for Hotels, Restaurants and Events

Hospitality staff recruitment in Mauritius begins with the service your property needs to deliver. Indian Ocean Millenium Partners sources skilled and semi-skilled workers from Nepal and India for hotels, restaurants, resorts and event venues. Describe the department, duties and guest requirements so the search addresses a defined vacancy.

For an opening, an additional restaurant service or a seasonal staffing need, separate essential posts from wider team plans. Our manpower consultancy in Vacoas-Phoenix supports sourcing, candidate screening and the supporting documents needed for employer applications.

Hospitality staff recruited for a hotel in Mauritius

Which hospitality departments can you recruit for?

The company profile includes the following hospitality roles, with front office and food and beverage positions also covered in the company fact sheet.

  • Management. Hotel managers and department leadership roles.
  • Kitchen and service. Chefs, cooks, kitchen staff, wait staff and bar staff for restaurants, hotel outlets and functions.
  • Rooms and reception. Housekeepers and front desk staff.
  • Events. Event coordinators for hotels and event venues.
  • Wellness and spa. Staffing for spa and wellness operations.

Turn each title into a working brief. For a chef, state the kitchen responsibilities and service format. For housekeeping, describe rooms and public areas. For event coordinators, explain the functions and coordination expected. Include the reporting line and language requirements, without assuming that everyone in a department needs the same skills.

How should you prepare for candidate selection?

Share the role, qualifications, experience, working hours, pay and accommodation. Our screening includes background checks, skill assessments, credential verification and reference checks. Your service requirements provide the focus for assessment, while your interviews help you decide whether candidates suit the responsibilities and communication needs of the property.

Before fixing a staffing date, identify who will supervise new arrivals and explain service standards, hygiene procedures and reporting arrangements. Give the recruitment brief to the department head who will manage the employee. Permit processing times are set by the authorities, so avoid treating a proposed opening date as an approval date.

What does the employer submit for a Work Permit?

The Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations administers the Work Permit. Its current information sheet removes Permission in Principle and the quota/ratio system. Employers must demonstrate inability to recruit locally, including contact with the National Employment Department or an Employment Information Centre and MauritiusJobs vacancy evidence.

For ordinary Work Permit applications, the employer or an employee on its Contribution Sociale Généralisée (CSG) payroll list submits on National E-Licensing Platform (NELS) through the Economic Development Board (EDB) business portal. Filing automatically transmits the residence application to the Passport and Immigration Office. The employment permission and residence permission remain distinct.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, a vetted employment contract is required at monthly salaries of MUR 50,000 or less; above that, the employer provides salary evidence. Covered staff dormitories require a Lodging Accommodation Permit, but the filing checklist also accepts a letter confirming that the LAP procedure has begun. Professional accommodation-letter exceptions apply.

How do you plan staffing across seasons and properties?

Check the legal employing entity and the job and site conditions on the permit before arranging work across properties. An employer-specific Work Permit alone does not establish a blanket ban on working at different properties of the same employer.

Use each permit’s actual expiry date. According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, the maximum stay/work period is ten years across sectors. Individual permits may have shorter validity. According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, submit Work Permit renewals three months before expiry. Keep a clear record of contract dates, housing arrangements and the manager responsible for each employee.

Frequently asked questions

Can we take over another hotel’s Work Permit?

No. For a Work Permit employer change, the new employer applies on NELS with the former employer’s no-objection letter and must obtain a new Work Permit before transfer.

Who pays recruitment costs and flights?

The Private Recruitment Agencies Act places recruitment costs, including travel to and from Mauritius, on the employer. Under the Private Recruitment Agencies Act 2023, workers must not pay recruitment fees.

What medical arrangements apply to new Work Permit hires?

Provisional medical clearance is required before travel. According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, apply for final health clearance within one week of arrival. The Ministry’s current sheet says the permit will be cancelled if final clearance is not granted.
