Work permit assistance in Mauritius: prepare the employer’s application
Our work permit assistance in Mauritius helps employers organise recruitment documents and candidate files. Indian Ocean Millenium Partners Co. Ltd provides support around the application. The employer remains the applicant, and the authorities determine eligibility and approval. Identify the applicable route before assembling documents or planning the worker’s start.
The steps below describe the ordinary Work Permit route using the Ministry’s current information sheet. Other statuses and statutory exemptions need separate checks; salary alone does not determine the route.

Work permit in Mauritius: which route should an employer check?
The Work Permit is issued by the Minister responsible for employment, through the Employment Division of the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations. The accompanying Residence Permit for Employment is issued by the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO), under the Director-General of Immigration.
The Occupation Permit combines work and residence permission. For the Professional category, the Director-General of Immigration/PIO issues it following Economic Development Board (EDB) registration, statutory completeness checks and the Joint Committee and responsible Ministry approval process. The employer files the Professional application through National E-Licensing Platform (NELS); original documents are checked after approval in principle. This is a separate application from the ordinary Work Permit.
Prepare local recruitment evidence and the relevant documents
The Ministry’s information sheet says Permission in Principle is no longer required and the quota or ratio system has been abolished. Employers must demonstrate inability to recruit locally, including National Employment Department or Employment Information Centre contact and MauritiusJobs vacancy evidence.
Use the current checklist for your entity, sector and application type. The Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet lists the relevant documents. These include corporate documents, passport validity of at least six months, qualifications and experience, employment terms and provisional medical clearance for new cases. According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, a vetted contract is required at monthly salaries of MUR 50,000 or less; above that, provide employer documentary salary evidence.
For covered dormitories, provide the Lodging Accommodation Permit or a letter showing its procedure has begun. Household, professional and sports cases have accommodation-letter exceptions.

Contact usSubmit on NELS and check residence permission
Register on the EDB business portal. The employer or an employee on its Contribution Sociale Généralisée (CSG) payroll list submits the ordinary Work Permit application through NELS. Domestic-worker applications have a close-relative exception. EDB hosts the portal; it does not issue the Ministry Work Permit.
Ordinary online Work Permit filing automatically submits the residence application to PIO. Confirm both permissions before travel.
Manage travel, health clearance and renewal
According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, an unused Work Permit lapses if the worker does not travel within six months of issue. According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, apply for final health clearance within one week after arrival. The sheet states that the permit will be cancelled if final clearance is not granted.
Use the expiry date on the actual permit. According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, the maximum allowable stay is ten years across sectors, rather than an automatic ten-year permit grant. According to the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations’ Work Permit Information Sheet, apply for ordinary Work Permit renewal three months before expiry. Keep approval and health-clearance processing times separate from your recruitment plan; these are set by the authorities.
